(European Bioplastics) A method based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to calculate the environmental performance of a product. It indicates the various environmental impacts or the aggregated environmental impact over the full lifespan of a product and not merely the climate impact. The concept is not to be confused with the concept of carbon foot printing, which has been in use for several years. The environmental impacts considered include emissions into water or soil, the use of scarce resources and other impacts, such as noise, and land use.
