The material which surrounds and protects the primary packaging, i.e., a paper-based box surrounding the vile. Primary and secondary packaging do not have a function to directly control temperature. Tertiary packaging (and Quaternary packaging, if used) for which the primary and secondary packaging go into are essential for maintaining temperature control in the cold chain packaging industry.
